International Coastal Cleanup
The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago in the US, when communities rallied
together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastlines. On
Saturday 18 September 2021 volunteers joined in the annual cleanup event at the Wild Coast Sun beach
with almost 60 eco warriors taking part.
A total of 1895 kg”s of waste was collected, mostly glass and plastic bottles, tin cans, polystyrene shards and micro plastics. All waste collected has been managed by Recycle 4 Africa who has a Zero Waste to Landfill Policy. The day was made possible by the sponsors of
The Wild Coast Sun, R4A Waste Management, Indulgence Spa, the Farmstall and Pearl Girl.
After the beach cleanup pupils from local schools showcased and sold their goodies made from waste
material at the Waste 4 Change Market.
Prizes were handed out to those who collected the most waste and to the most innovative recycled and
upcycled products displayed at the market.
